Within its work with young people, Foundation House works
closely with schools to develop a ‘whole of school
approach’ supporting refugee students.
Group programs for primary and secondary students have proven
to be an effective way of engaging young people and their
families who may not otherwise benefit from the services
of Foundation House.
Foundation House also works with teachers and other staff
through professional development so they can better understand
the refugee experience and consider the implications of
learning environments for the well being of refugee students.
Foundation House recognises that the effects torture and
trauma have on one person can have additional impacts upon
others in their lives. Efforts to build various partnerships
and link parents with schools, link with Foundation House’s
other initiatives and encourage a ‘big picture’ approach
to working with individuals, families and communities.
